The New England states are aiming to adopt this by Memorial Day weekend. ![]() ** The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission recently approved an emergency addendum to the fishery management plan requiring coastal states adopt a 28" to less than 31" slot slot limit by no later than July 2, 2023. For more information, please see April 27 advisory. Gulf of Maine refers to all waters north of Cape Cod, including Cape Cod Bay, and those waters east of Cape Cod that are north of 42 ☀0'N latitude. Southern New England refers to all waters south and west of Cape Cod, including Nantucket Sound, Vineyard Sound, Buzzards Bay and Mount Hope Bay, and all waters east of Cape Cod that are south of 42 ☀0'N latitude including Nauset Harbor and Pleasant Bay. Status quo limits (as described in the table above) remain in effect of start of federal fishing year on May 1. DMF will match federal rules once they are finalized. * For cod and haddock, federal rule making is ongoing and limits are expected to change during the late-spring or early summer. Please consult NOAA Fisheries for permitting requirements and regulations. Tunas, billfish, and swordfish are managed by NOAA's Highly Migratory Species Office. During closed seasons, retention, possession, and landing is prohibited and and all catch must be released. For any dates not listed in the "Season" column, the recreational fishery is closed. ![]()
